Heartwood in Collaboration with the Northshore Family Partnership Program

Registration Opens July 1st

The Northshore Family Partnership Program has partnered with Heartwood Nature Programs to offer it's participants 100% outdoor September-June nature immersion learning opportunities at the Paradise Valley Conservation Area in Woodinville, WA.

The curriculum at Heartwood is placed based and experiential, shaped by the seasons, natural processes, and events that occur in the 793 acre Paradise Valley Conservation Area. Home to a variety of ecosystems, including woods, several types of wetlands, streams (including the main steam of Little Bear Creek that supports silver, sockeye and chinook salmon populations), Paradise is an ideal location for children to connect to and gain a deeper understanding of this important and environmentally consequential watershed area.

Heartwood endeavors to address the disconnect between people and the natural world and develop in students a greater sense of belonging to and responsibility for our local natural resources through:

  • Mindfulness practices that develop place-awareness, self-awareness, reduce stress, and build personal resilience.

  • Student directed free time that encourages confidence, independence, teamwork, communication and leadership skills.

  • Stewardship activities focused on developing a deep understanding of the impacts and outcomes of spending time in nature for the space itself and for our own selves.

  • Outdoor skill based learning such as knife work, fire building and foraging and animal tracking that instills in children a sense of independence, self sufficiency and ease while being outdoors and in a natural and wild environment.
