Junior Counselor Program Ages 12-17

Summer Camp Junior Counselor

 

Join us this summer as a Junior Counselor for Summer Camp at St. Edward State Park. Build your leadership, teaching and group management skills supporting campers ages 6-11 while they hike, play, learn, craft and make friends, all 100% outdoors! Heartwood is free of charge for all Junior Counselors. This is a volunteer program and counts toward community service hours.

Our Junior Counselor Program is full for summer 2021.  If you are interested in joining this program for summer 2022, please fill out the interest list linked just below and we will email you in the winter of 2022 when the application window opens.

Junior Counselors must meet the following requirements:​

  • Enoy working and interacting with young children

  • Motivated to become a role model

  • Desire to learn leadership skills

  • Interest in the natural environment

  • Commit to a minimum of volunteering at least one full week during the summer, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Typical responsibilities:

  • Assisting with group management

  • Leading songs, games, and activities

  • Gathering materials and supplies

  • Helping clean-up

  • Learning new things about nature

  • Helping out with the end of the week festivities 

Weeks & Themes

  • Week 1 - Outdoor Skills for Outdoor Kids: July 5-9

  • Week 2 - Flora and Foraging: July 12-16

  • Week 3 - Nature is a Theater: July 19-23

  • Week 4 - Winged Creatures of the Day and Night: July 26-30

  • Week 5 - Creative Campers: August 2-6

  • Week 6 - Nature Detectives: August 9-13
