Ages 3.5 - 4 by September 1st

The Huckleberries program is designed to honor the interests of children first and foremost. With loving guidance from experienced teachers, students are encouraged to play, climb, dig, build and get dirty. This class includes songs, games, yoga, a short hike and plenty of free play and exploration every day.

Rain or shine, the children in our program enjoy the ever-changing adventure that the forest provides and they gain many foundational life skills and tools: resiliency, empathy, understanding of self, others and nature, self-regulation, curiosity, confidence, growth mindset, mindfulness, stewardship, love of learning, critical thinking skills and a foundation of nature connection that will last them a lifetime.

This is a 100% outdoor forest program. We have fun no matter what the weather! As the saying goes, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing". During the winter months and on really rainy days, we provide a shelter (tent/tarp shelter) and warm tea time so that our campers will have a dry space to play, learn and warm up!

How do I know my child will be a good fit for this program?

  • Because of COVID19 concerns, we are waiving site visits until we have reached Phase 3 stage of opening in Washington State. Please note that the first 30 days of participation are on a trial basis for all children. Your child must be able to handle the rigors of a full 4 hours out in the elements (rain or shine), must be potty trained and must be able to stay with the group even when upset or frustrated.  For additional readiness requirements, please see our Readiness Checklist. If we have any concerns about whether or not this program is a good fit for your child, we will speak with you about it during this trial period.

Does my preschooler need to be potty trained?

  • Yes, definitely.  We do not have the facilities to change diapers.  Your child needs to be able to communicate with a teacher if they need to use the bathroom, and then be able to hold it until they have walked to the bathroom which can be a few minute walk from the play area, or longer if we are on a hike.

What are you doing to protect staff and children from COVID19?

  • Please visit our COVID19 page for details.

Will my child be required to wear a mask?
